Tunnels Under Yorion
A downloadable game
Tunnels Under Yorion Demo for use by publishers and interested hobbyists.
You are simply a hard-working farmer dropped into the bowels of a dungeon. You have to crawl back to the surface using your wits, weapons, and knowledge of plants and animals. Not every enemy faced needs to be killed: many can be reasoned with.
Tunnels Under Yorion is a classic Roguelike with a modern narrative and beautiful pixel art. Explore tunnels, collect tools, and kill vile creatures. Talk to your supposed enemies. Bribe them. Befriend them. Build up a reputation. Get killed by a cave goblin and start back at the deepest level of the dungeon, but, your friends and enemies will remember you.
Controls:
- [WASD] to move (but can be changed in the options menu)
- [E] to interact
- [Q] to wait
- [T] to talk
- [1], [2], [3] to select options in dialog
- mouse over to inspect
- use the mouse to manage your inventory
Key Features:
- Medium complexity: you won’t need a wiki to enjoy this Roguelike
- Short runs: depending on the mode, runs can take just 10-20 minutes, so you probably have time for “just one more” run
- Classic enemies like rats, goblins, and zombies in a beautiful, nostalgic pixel art style
- Complex dialog that lets you change friends into enemies (or enemies into friends)
- End bosses that test your sense of morality
Tunnels Under Yorion currently contains:
- 3 biomes (making 7 levels)
- 6 weapons, 10 enemies, 2 NPC friends
- 1 playable character
- 10-15 minutes of content per “run”
- Low replayability
- Low online visibility
We want to reach:
- 6 biomes (making 15 levels)
- 12 weapons, 40+ enemies, 10 NPC friends
- 3 additional, unlockable playable characters
- Three game modes (casual lore-heavy "Story" mode, hardcore roguelike "Adventure" mode, and surreal "Weird" mode)
- Meta-progression in the form of a small garden that you tend between runs, harvest the food on your next run
- Several machine rooms (puzzles, traps, and other nefarious mechanisms)
- 4-6 hours of core content, 10-20 hours for the "completionist" gamer
- High replayability
- A vibrant, active, caring player community in the 1000s
This demo is incomplete. Many updates and improvements to come...
If your game is crashing when you climb the stairs or before you can even get into the dungeon, you could try the "standalone" version of the game, which does not attempt to write to the harddrive (while we debug file reading and writing on our end). Sorry about this...
